Annual Backflow Testing & Repairs

A backflow preventer protects the potable water supply from contamination caused by reverse water flow. Common devices requiring testing include:

  • Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) assemblies — designed for high-hazard applications and protection against backpressure.

  • Double Check Valve (DCV) assemblies — commonly used for non-health-hazard applications with backpressure protection.

  • Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB) and Spill-Resistant Vacuum Breaker (SVB) assemblies — designed to protect against backsiphonage and not intended for backpressure conditions.

Annual testing may be required by TCEQ rules, the SAWS Backflow Prevention Program, your water provider, and applicable plumbing codes.

  • To identify prohibited lead materials or other potential health hazards in the potable water system.

  • When a water supplier identifies a possible hazard or cross-connection.

  • When required under applicable Texas regulations or by the local water supplier.

  • To help protect the safety and quality of the property’s drinking water.
